Critical and strategic minerals: what is the difference between them?

🌎 Today, the value of a mineral is determined not only by its underground reserves but also by which technologies, industries, or supply chains depend on it. For this reason, the concepts of "critical" and "strategic" are increasingly appearing on the global industrial agenda.

💎 A critical mineral is a resource of great importance to the economy and industry, disruptions in the supply of which can seriously affect production or technological processes. A strategic mineral is a raw material of particular importance for the development of the energy sector, the aerospace industry, digital technologies, and other priority areas.

⚙️ For example, tungsten, due to its high heat resistance and strength, is widely used in the aerospace industry, mechanical engineering, and high-tech manufacturing. Its properties are essential for modern technologies operating in harsh conditions.

🇺🇿 For Uzbekistan, however, the issue is not limited merely to the availability of resources. The main task is to build the process from mineral extraction to its processing, the creation of technologies, and the manufacturing of high-value-added products.

💼 The Uzbek Combine of Technological Metals (TMC) works precisely in this direction, integrating resource development, processing, research and development, the creation of advanced materials, and the production of finished goods into a single value-added chain.

💠 With critical minerals, the main issue is the stability of supply. With strategic ones, it is their role in future industrial and technological development.
